Amanda Barrie's Marigold Hotel Adventure Concludes Tonight!

A quick reminder that Amanda Barrie is starring in the second series of the BBC's documentary, The Real Marigold Hotel. The series follows eight well-known pensioners as they travel to India for adventures inspired by the famous film starring Judi Dench and Maggie Smith. Sadly tonight sees the last instalment of the show.

The BBC series has followed the adventures of the famous OAPs as they discover a completely different culture and work out whether they could ever think of retiring there. The first series, which featured the likes of Miriam Margolyes and Wayne Sleep, was excellent fun managing to be a "reality" series which didn't demean those featured or see the participants fall out and cause carnage. The series was charming, funny, sad and most of all, very human.

This second series, which has come in four hour long parts, has follwed Barrie and her fellow travellers including Bill Oddie, Lionel Blair and Paul Nicholas, as they explore communal living and all that India has to offer. I have really enjoyed watching their antics! Amanda is a real favourite of mine, starring in both Coronation Street (as Alma Baldwin) and of course, two Carry Ons, Cabby as Anthea and Cleo as the title character, Cleopatra. I met Amanda a couple of years ago at the London Film Convention and she was absolutely lovely in person too. And long may she continue!

I have found this series to be really entertaining, informative and refreshing. The well known faces involved have all had their moments to shine and I think the series has portrayed what it's like to grow old with real courage and style in the 21st Century. Amanda, always one of my favourites, has been one of the real stars of the series and it's been great to see her as "herself" in a prime time BBC programme.

Amanda will also be appearing in a new Channel 4 series entitled "Bus Pass Bandits"...yes quite! More on that when I get it!

The Real Marigold Hotel continues tonight at 9pm on BBC1.
