Please Sir at the Cinema Museum!

I've just come across this on the good old internet but despite the short notice I thought it was worth sharing. Tomorrow, Saturday 10 October, London's Cinema Museum is paying tribute that wonderful comedy series, Please Sir!

Please Sir! was made for ITV between 1968 and 1971 and was followed up with the spin off The Fenn Street Gang between 1971 and 1973. There was also a big screen version released in 1971. Please Sir! focussed on the trials and tribulations of the teaching staff at Fenn Street School as they battled with the unruly children. The cast was headed by the lovely John Alderton as Bernard Hedges with able support from Joan Sanderson, Noel Howlett, Richard Davies and Eric Chitty, not to mention the legendary Deryck Guyler as the caretaker, Potter.

Of course the "children" were actually very much older than school age. Sadly the likes of Liz Gebhardt and Malcolm McFee are no longer with us, but two of the surviving cast members will be at the Cinema Museum for a question and answer session. David Barry (Frankie Abbott) and Peter Cleall (Eric Duffy) will be at the museum from 8pm to answer questions and meet fans.

Before the Q&A, the Cinema Museum will be screening the film version of Please Sir! starting at 5pm. The film starred all the usual favourites and included Carry On favourites Carol Hawkins and Patsy Rowlands. I have a real soft spot for this film, including the rousing theme tune and the Cilla Black song, La La La...

If you happen to get down to the Cinema Museum tomorrow, let me know how it all goes!

For a bit of nostalgia, here's the famous theme tune from the television series:

And here is the opening sequence from the film:
